We are proud to announce our ISCC Plus certification

We have received ISCC Plus certification from ISCC (International Sustainability & Carbon Certification) in February 2022. For us, the ISCC Plus certification is a new milestone that promotes an environmentally, socially and economically sustainable production. The certified mass balance approach enables us to assign the share of sustainable raw materials – for example recyclates or bio-based materials – to our products, making it easier for you to achieve your sustainability goals.

Over the past years, the mass balance approach has prevailed in the chemical industry. As an important milestone on the pathway to a circular economy and bioeconomy, it has been designed to trace the flow of materials through a complex value chain. Since chemically recycled or bio-based feedstocks are typically blended in the manufacturing complex, physical segregation of recycled content is often practically and economically infeasible. The mass balance approach makes it possible to track the amount and sustainability characteristics of circular and/or bio-based content in the value chain and attribute it based on verifiable bookkeeping.

ISCC Plus is a standard well-recognised by all stakeholders for recycled and bio-based materials. ISCC Plus certification provides traceability along the supply chain and verifies that companies meet environmental and social standards. For companies using the mass balance approach, ISCC Plus certification verifies that the mass balance accounting follows predefined and transparent rules.

Color for large-scale 3D-printed objects

In the plastics industry, additive manufacturing is the process of choice for the production of individual components in small batch sizes or of small series. Especially the design sector highly appreciates the great potential of 3D-printing and employs it for numerous applications. Using this technology, large objects, such as pieces of furniture or other design elements, can be developed within a short period of time and produced cost-efficiently in small batches. Additive manufacturing is used, for example, in the production of seasonal products and toys in small and special series or in trade show construction.

It goes without saying that color design plays a special role in these areas. However, conventional masterbatch solutions often deliver unsatisfactory color results in 3D-printing. This is mainly due to the fact that the extruders used in additive manufacturing systems are designed exclusively for plasticizing the material, but not for mixing different components.

This is why we have developed a new compound series for 3D printing large-format components: FIBACOMP-3D. The compound is completely dyed and pellets only need to be plasticized in the extruder for processing in 3D printing. The FIBACOMP-3D series is precisely tailored to 3D printing directly from pellets and combines easy processability with individual coloring.

Like all our products, we tune FIBACOMP-3D exactly to the application you have in mind and configure material, color and other additives accordingsly. Depending on the component, we can combine FIBACOMP-3D with further additives such as UV- and thermo-stabilizers, antistatics or lubricants. Sustainability and FIBACOMP-3D go hand in hand here, as numerous variants based on PCR are available in addition to those based on virgin material. A range of standard colors based on PETG is in stock, guaranteeing particularly fast conversion of your ideas into finished products.

As usual, we accompany you from the design phase to series production, thus ensuring a short time-to-market for new developments in additive manufacturing.

Effective protection for sensitive goods in transparent packagings

To improve recyclability of packaging plastics, clear bottles for food or cosmetics have become increasingly popular. In contrast to opaque or dark-colored plastic packagings, transparent plastic packagings offer no inherent light protection. This is, however, an important feature, as high-energy UV radiation can destroy the molecular structures of fragrances and flavorings or vitamins and cause dyes to fade.

For applications like this, we have developed a new additive batch series that is entirely focused on function: FIBATEC. This new series of additive batches based on bottle grade PET or rPET is uncolored and equipped with a UV absorber to protect the contents. An embellished variant that can compensate for yellow discoloration is also available.

The FIBATEC additive batch series has been specially developed for the protection of sensitive goods. They are free of benzotriazoles, PAAs, PAHs and contain neither CMR substances nor SVHC. Depending on the UV absorber used, they offer reliable protection in the near UV range up to 380 nm or 395 nm. Our FIBATEC additive batches also comply with EU Regulation 10/2011 on plastic materials and articles intended to come into contact with foodstuffs, FDA requirements and Chinese regulations GB4806 and GB9685. They are approved for packaging and registered in the chemical inventories in Europe (REACH), the USA (Toxic Substance Control Act, TSCA) and China (Inventory of Existing Chemical Substance in China, IECSC).

FIBATEC masterbatches are available based on PET and rPET carrier. Since the PET is post-crystallized, the FIBATEC masterbatches can be processed easily on all common equipment and are particularly suitable for single- and two-stage injection stretch blow molding.

The reliable UV protection guarantees a longer shelf life of the contents. Tests at our Technical Center have shown, for example, that bottles equipped with FIBATEC UV protection provide a 30 times longer shelf life for vitamin A compared to bottles without UV protection. Blue tinted contents retain color up to 7x longer in the UV-protected container.
